Misuse of Antibiotics” is the title of a scientific seminar at the College of Health and Medical Techniques/Kufa.
The Department of Community Health Techniques at the College of Health and Medical Techniques/Kufa, one of the institutions of the Middle Euphrates Technical University, organized a scientific seminar on the misuse of antibiotics and the risks arising from unnecessary and random use of antibiotics.
The seminar aims to raise awareness in the community about the widespread behavior of random antibiotic use for treating certain diseases, a behavior that has begun to spiral out of control and poses a threat to public health, whether carried out by doctors, pharmacists, or the patients themselves.
The seminar clarified that this incorrect practice leads to a very serious phenomenon known as antibiotic resistance, which in turn weakens the immune system in individuals. Moreover, the random use of antibiotics gives microbes immunity against the antibiotic and other related drugs. The use of an antibiotic should be determined based on the type of microorganism, the patient’s condition, and the site of the infection.
The seminar concluded with the need for caution, especially among individuals who prescribe medications for themselves or others based on personal experiences, as this jeopardizes their lives and reduces the chances of recovery.
