Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University concludes a scientific course on semen analysis in diagnosing early infertility in men

The Department of medical laboratory technologies, at the Faculty of Health and medical technologies/Kufa, one of the formations of the Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University , concluded a scientific course on the role of semen analysis in the diagnosis of early infertility in men, as a basic diagnostic tool to assess their infertility cases.
The course aimed to know and update the standards used according to the World Health Organization’s international standards in the analysis and examination of semen to increase male fertility to ensure the best results as well as to increase the chances of pregnancy or childbearing using IVF technology.
The course began with a simplified definition of semen, its importance, and a detailed explanation of the conditions for its analysis, and its causes such as diseases that cause impaired semen such as taking chemical drugs, or patients exposed to radiation, or smokers, alcoholics and drug addicts, and some underlying problems such as hormonal disorders, infections, or lifestyle factors that affect fertility.
The role of semen analysis is to measure everything related to sperm, such as the amount of semen, concentration and number of sperm, the ratio of movement speed and sperm composition, the percentage of mature and deformed sperm, viscosity, gonadal secretions, and the presence of infections, blood, pus or adhesions between sperm.The acidity of semen, the amount of fructose sugar.
The course concluded with the need for early evaluation and medical follow-up, indicating the methods of treatment either medically with medical drugs or surgically in cases that require it.
