Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University concludes a scientific course on gout
The Department of Medical Laboratory Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies/Kufa, one of the formations of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, concluded a scientific course on gout, which lasted for three days to cover the requirements of the course. A group of the department’s teachers took turns giving lectures.
The course began with an introduction to gout or the so-called Kings disease, a form of arthritis that occurs due to high uric acid levels in the blood. It is characterized by acute attacks of pain, swelling and redness in the joints, especially in the big toe. During the course, the main causes of the disease were touched upon, including high uric acid production in the body, impaired ability of the kidneys to excrete uric acid, eating foods rich in purines, genetic factors, and some other factors that increase the chance of developing the disease. Pathological symptoms, such as severe and sudden pain in the joints, swelling and redness of the affected area, difficulty in movement, severe sensitivity to touch in the affected joint, as well as diagnostic methods were also addressed. The session concluded with the importance of continuous follow-up, the need for early diagnosis, which can significantly reduce the possible complications of the disease, adherence to drug therapy and lifestyle changes.
