The Department of Medical Laboratory Technology was established in the academic year (2011-2012) within the College of Medical and Health Technology under the name (Pathological Analysis Technologies). The name of the department was changed to (Medical Laboratory Technology) in the academic year (2018-2019). The department awards a Bachelor’s degree in Pathological Analysis, which in turn qualifies students to complete their postgraduate studies and practice their profession in health laboratories. The department includes a group of faculty members and external lecturers, some of whom hold doctorates and master’s degrees, in addition to employees who represent the technical staff of the department.
Vision
The Department of Pathological Analysis Technologies represents an important and effective means to meet the community’s need for specialized medical personnel to support various health, research, and educational institutions. In addition, it seeks to invest the skills of faculty members and students in applied scientific research and studies, as well as training, awareness, and the development of technical and professional expertise through scientific and research methods that are compatible with the continuous development in pathological analysis technologies.
Message
The Department of Pathological Analysis Techniques was established to meet the needs of health institutions for specialized service cadres with scientific specifications and standards, as well as how to prepare these cadres to work in these institutions, as well as to support the private sector in this field, and to develop the teaching and student cadres in the fields of scientific and cognitive research and to strive to open postgraduate studies, which are the scientific asset of the department firstly and other institutions secondly, which will work to build horizons of scientific cooperation with similar scientific departments and related institutions in order to achieve strength in giving and a renaissance in the advanced scientific and technical field.
Aims
The department seeks to achieve the following objectives:
1. Acquire all basic knowledge and skills in the fields of pathological analysis.
2. Select and prepare the materials required for pathological analysis.
3. Use and maintain all laboratory equipment.
4. Identify pathogens, whether bacterial, parasitic, fungal, or viral, and acquire the ability to investigate them.
5. Diagnose genetic diseases and differentiate them from acquired diseases.
6. Deal with infectious and contagious diseases and how to prevent them in the laboratory by implementing occupational safety guidelines.
7. Gain insight into the human aspects of dealing with patients, which is an important part of treatment.
