Al-Kufa College of Health and Medical Technologies Holds a Scientific Course on the Preparation of Culture Media and Methods of Bacterial Cultivation and Diagnosis

With the aim of mastering both basic and advanced skills in microbiology, the Department of Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies / Kufa, one of the formations of the Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, organized a scientific training course entitled “Preparation of Culture Media and Methods of Bacterial Cultivation and Diagnosis.” The lectures were delivered by Assistant Lecturer Khamael Mohsen Obeid, with the goal of enhancing participants’ knowledge of modern diagnostic laboratory techniques in accordance with established academic and scientific standards.

The first day of the course included an introduction to microbiology and culture media, covering the scientific principles and classification of culture media, as well as proper preparation and sterilization techniques to ensure a contamination-free environment. Accurate media preparation, as highlighted in the session, represents the cornerstone for successful cultivation and diagnosis.

The second day focused on the theoretical aspects of various types of culture media, providing a detailed explanation of each type’s purpose, importance, and sterilization methods, in addition to discussing bacterial cultivation techniques and the use of modern technologies in laboratory diagnostics.

The third day was dedicated to practical training, during which participants applied bacterial cultivation and diagnostic procedures using microscopic examination. The session also covered the study of morphological and microscopic characteristics, presentation of basic biochemical tests, and diagnostic schemes used to identify bacterial species and guide appropriate therapeutic approaches.
